I help mum bloggers

My ideal reader is Rachel a mum blogger passionate about feminism. She really hates the tech side of things. It's just not her strength.

Rachel isn’t sure how to get her blog loading faster, it takes about 10 seconds for her homepage to load and she's worried that it might be putting people off staying on her blog. She's heard that a few other bloggers have had their sites hacked lately and she's terrified that hers will be too.

Rachel struggled to verify her site with Pinterest and Google Analytics (of course it's her site, whose else would it be?) and don't even get her started with the Google Analytics tracking code.

If ANY of this sounds like you, then you're in the right place.

I've been on both sides of the fence...

I have a first class honours degree in software engineering and have worked as a web developer for nearly a decade! Wow - that makes me feel old.

Before I started The Blog Genie I was a parent blogger. My first blog started out as a project to hone my tech skills, but I found that I really liked writing. And the rest is history, as they say.

What I'm trying to say is that I know what it's like from both sides of the fence. I was a parent blogger just like you. I had to work out how to set up my SSL certificate, I needed to find how to tell Google my site existed by submitting a sitemap.

The only difference is my background in software which probably helped me find those answers just a little bit quicker than you did.

But let's be honest, if you're like me trying to hold down a day-job, bring up a pre-schooler and run a successful blog, EVERY minute counts.

And that's why I'm here.

From corporate ambition to small business owner

My blogging journey started back in 2016 when I was looking for a project to work on at home.
I'd originally meant to create a blog from scratch to develop my tech skills, but I soon realised that I enjoyed writing.
In the blink of an eye I'd set up a WordPress blog and was writing about my experiences of parenting over at Raising a Ragamuffin.

Last year, in 2017, I changed the focus of that blog from being a general parenting blog to have a more feminist parenting focus.

Fast forward to March 2018 when I decided that I wanted to start a blog that would allow me to earn more money, more quickly so that I could quit my day-job and be at home more for my little girl.

It was at this point that I realised that I could use my experience from working in the software industry, combined with my blogging knowledge to help other bloggers with their tech problems. It was one of those light-bulb moments that makes you wonder why you hadn't thought of it before, and that was how The Blog Genie was born.
